From a young age I participated in organized sports and have always enjoyed being active. After playing basketball, softball and field hockey in high school; I had the privilege of playing field hockey at Longwood College. Once I graduated, I got married and started teaching HS Math and coaching basketball at a local high school. It wasn’t long after that I started having kids and found myself not making time to workout anymore.

Finally after I had my 4th child I found CrossFit and I fell in love with it. I was able to feel likeI was part of a “team” again and also let the competitive side of me out! I soon realized I wanted to coach. I am very passionate about what I do and I wanted to share that with others! I love helping others find joy and success in working out! It’s my goal to help them feel good about themselves when they walk out that door!

I was never much into fitness growing up. My parents encouraged me to play basketball because of my height, but I never really enjoyed it. In college I developed an unhealthy lifestyle and I knew I had to change my habits. I didn’t like going to the gym and I yo-yo dieted for years which caused a lot of unhealthy habits and mental health. After finding CrossFit and Olympic lifting I found something that made me feel strong and empowered.

I’ve continued to grow my fitness and coaching knowledge over the course of seven years and even though I may not be at the top of the leaderboard, I found my happiness in helping others achieve their goals and find their inner strength. I know the struggles that starting new life habits can bring and I carry that with me in my coaching

I got into CrossFit in 2016 when I was a student at ODU. I graduated with a bachelors degree in Exercise Science. A few months after graduating I got my CrossFit L1, found my home at Chic’s Beach CrossFit and started coaching in May of 2018. In December that year I got certified through Precision Nutrition for 1-on-1 nutrition coaching.

Josh Jordan

CrossFit & FIt Coach

Name is Josh. Have been a PTA for 6.5 years. Worked as a personal trainer for 5 years. Favorite sport(s) are Wrestling (the real kind LOL) and Football (American). Favorite college team is Ohio State (in all sports), favorite professional team is the New England Patriots, and favorite individual athlete is Jordan Burroughs. I played 6 sports growing up. I am married with a son, and now a daughter on the way! I love working out, playing video games, watching movies, taking a long nap, hiking, riding bikes, swimming, beach volleyball, or anything else involving fun outside. 

I started at Chic’s Beach CrossFit in 2020 and instantly felt right at home. The great coaching and energizing atmosphere has helped me improve my fitness, and also improve my lifting/gymnastics skills! 

Fun fact: I once got to wrestle with Olympic bronze medalist Coleman Scott.

Charlene Wright

FIT Coach

Charlene began her fitness journey at the Norfolk Girls Club – recreation, aerobic dance and gymnastics. 
 
She has been teaching group fitness for over 30 years to include Hi/Lo, Step, Bosu, TRX, Body Pump, Indoor Rowing, Spin and Yoga FIT just to name a few.
 
Charlene enjoys helping people move their bodies , encouraging them in their fitness journey and helping them live a healthier life.

Chris Migani

CrossFit Coach

My name is Chris. I moved to Virginia Beach in 2015 when I joined the Navy. I have been doing CrossFit since 2011. Prior to that I went to Quinnipiac University where I got an Undergraduate in Criminal Justice and a Masters in Business. During my time as a Quinnipiac Bobcat I got the opportunity to play and captain with their NCAA Division 1 program. I started at Chic’s Beach CrossFit around 2017. If you come to one of my classes you’ll see a Red Lab (Coach Oakley), he’s my assistant coach and won’t hesitate to count your reps! Hope to see y’all at the gym!

Michelle Elbassiouny

Owner, Chic’s Beach CrossFit

Michelle began as a member of our community as an athlete in our FIT classes.  She loved the workouts, the dedication of the coaches and the community that she found here and felt it was unlike anything else she had experienced. When the founding owners were set to move away from the area, Michelle stepped in and purchased the gym because she didn’t want to see it close. She wanted to give more people the opportunity to share in the same experience that changed her life. Although not a coach, Michelle is the lifeblood of this community who has a passion to see each and every member thrive in the pursuit of their fitness goals.

Haley Pope

Yoga Instructor

One Sunday morning back in 2015 I walked into the CrossFit Gym I had been attending for not the typical open gym on a Sunday, but a yoga session led by Rebecca Miles, and I never turned back. Yoga changed my life.
 
I joined the military later that year, from 2015-2020 I was Active Duty in the Navy and practiced yoga religiously. I now work for the Navy as a Logistician and am in the Navy Reserve. Yoga got me through some really tough times, but also some really good times.
 
I received my RYT 200 through VETOGA in January 2021 – a Veteran run yoga association whose mission is to provide yoga, meditation, and healing arts to military, veterans, their families, and communities. I don’t just wish to reach this community-but all, which is why I am here! I am passionate about being able to share the gift that yoga has given me to others.
 
But watch out for my weirdness-I let that light shine bright. When you show up on your mat, that is exactly where you are meant to be at that very given moment in time. I am eager to teach and grow in the in community and share this lightness in a world that isn’t always so bright. And remember, Yoga is for every BODY.
