Meet Troy

I made it through most of my life never working out because I couldn’t stick with it. It came down to the workouts being boring or too hard, but it came to a point with getting older and my health slowly declining that I needed to make a change. I joined Chic's Beach CrossFit in October 2019 after being pressured by my father and brother-in-law. It was an eye opening, nausea-inducing 45 minutes of pure hell, but I managed to force myself to keep coming back. As I met new friends and got comfortable with the coaches, everything changed and now they are some of my favorite people! Getting past that first hurdle of getting comfortable being uncomfortable was a big moment, and for the first time in my life I started enjoying coming to the gym. Chic’s Beach CrossFit has the best coaches who cheer you on and push you farther than you ever thought possible. The last year was the biggest turning point, and because of all the support I was able to drop 40lbs and started doing things I thought were never in the cards for me. Now I couldn’t imagine starting my day without the gym, and that’s something that would never come out of my mouth a few years ago.

Meet Karen

My FIT journey began by accident in the spring of 2017 when I attended an Obstacle Course Day that Chic's Beach CrossFit (formerly Brixx/CF Unparalleled) had organized. After the event I received a tour of “the box”, and knowing I had been thinking of doing additional training to prepare for Tough Mudder later that summer, I joined. At that point I had been running since 2013, and thought I was in good shape.

That first FIT class was very humbling, but at the same time very addicting. I don’t feel I had ever pushed myself mentally and physically the way I did during those classes (and this still pretty much holds true today). I was, and still am, grateful and intrigued at the tips the coaches always have for maximizing power in an efficient, and safe way, as well as for their ability to balance pushing me to do my best but seeming to know when I have hit my limit. I have watched my muscles get more defined, and my shoulder mobility greatly improve. I feel stronger, and I know the classes have improved my endurance as a runner. I have cried tears of frustration within those walls, and made grunts I had never known existed in me, but I have also had an abundance of heartfelt laughs with people I admire for their ability to look past short-term discomfort for something way more long-lasting and rewarding.

I am sure my time at Chic's Beach CrossFit is a key factor in my handling turning 50 with a laugh more than a “what the ???” I strongly believe “if you don’t use it, you lose it”, and my time at Chic's Beach CrossFit is most certainly ensuring I not only don’t lose it, but I continue to build it.

Meet Joe

After college is when I realized that I was not living a healthy lifestyle and something needed to change. Once my wife started running and got on a plant based diet, I soon followed and ended up running the Biffledinked 10 X 5k at Chic's Beach CrossFit (formerly Brixx/CF Unparalleled) on April 30th, 2016. I found that running had helped me trim down and build up my cardio endurance, but my muscle tone was down and I had mobility issues from only running.

That is when a friend of mine introduced me to the FIT classes. Being " that guy" I tried to come in and grab the "RX" weight and quickly learned how out of shape I was when it came to moving weights. The great coaching encouraged me to use a lower weight and learn the movements first. After several months I was picking it up a lot easier and was HOOKED!!! As I got stronger I was able to "RX" workouts and even found myself at the top of the leaderboard! The coaching staff helped me transform from a beginner at lifting weights, to a confident, stronger athlete by encouraging me to add reps and weight as I progressed over the years. I currently have shifted to more CrossFit classes and am seeing EVEN MORE improvements in my strength and overall fitness.

This place is 🔥. The vibe of the membership is 💯 welcoming. I dropped in for the week. The programing was great. Each workout out complemented the previous day’s. Chris; the 5am coach does a great job of getting everyone excited about the WOD. The owner Heather, made it a point to make me feel at home. Definitely one of the top 5 CrossFit affiliates that I have been to. Lastly, it is less than a 10 minute drive from JEB Little Creek.

If you are looking for a chill awesome gym that happens to do CrossFit, go to Chic’s Beach CrossFit. You get CrossFit without the stigma, and cult mentality unlike CrossFit Takeover or CrossFit Rife in Virginia Beach. Those places are sadly toxic. If you want a great workout with awesome and knowledgeable staff, go to Chic’s! The best CrossFit gym membership I’ve ever had.

Great group of members and coaches! Coaches are extremely knowledgeable. This gym is a great place, whether seasoned athlete or a first timer, they welcome anyone and everyone. The gym is clean with plenty of equipment. Classes are never overcrowded and one always get the attention they need.

Great variety of CrossFit fitness be it training for a competition or starting off your fitness journey. They are very welcoming and I love their options for CrossFit and Metcon classes. I'm able to bring my kids and they can watch from the stroller. I just returned after having two kids and I'm finally feeling myself again, meeting fitness goals and enjoying a great community.

I joined CBCF in December of 2021 after hearing about it for about a year and I regret not coming in sooner! I love this gym all around - the location is extremely convenient to the Chic’s beach area and the coaches and community are so supportive and inclusive. There’s a great blend of experience/fitness levels and they also offer both CrossFit and FIT programming. They also offer a wide range of class times that will allow you to come to class, no matter your schedule. Can’t recommend enough!
